Kelly Clarkson's holiday special, which aired on Wednesday evening, drew bigger numbers than her former mentor's show.
On Friday it was reported by Showbiz 411 that the country star's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale pulled in 5.31 million viewers.
But the singer's old American Idol boss Simon Cowell saw only 4.97 million eyes for his struggling reality show The X Factor which aired the same night.

'This must hurt,' wrote Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman.
'The X Factor is just not doing well. We all know it. But on Wednesday night there was an added insult: Kelly Clarksons Christmas special had more total viewers than Simon Cowells competition.
'The irony of course is that Clarkson was discovered on Cowells American Idol and was the very first winner of that show,' he continued.
'X Factor was the eleventh - yes 11th - most watched show on Wednesday night. Thats also rough news.'

The article ended, 'If they havent made severe changes for the upcoming season, theyre going to be in the same predicament.'
Kelly, 31, was joined by a whole host of famous faces that included Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg.
Simon's X Factor has low star wattage this season with Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
In past seasons he's had much bigger celebrities like Britney Spears and Khloe Kardashian.

Kelly - who was the winner of the first season of Simon's massive hit reality show American Idol - looked pretty as she changed into several outfits to sing her heart out on a Yuletide-decorated stage.
The Christmas special is just one of Kelly's many highlights this year.
In October she married Brandon Blackstock, then soon after announced she was pregnant with her first child.
She is now promoting her new Christmas album Wrapped In Red.
Simon's Wednesday night X Factor sadly saw his three member group Restless Road get eliminated on Live Week 5 Results.
The British personality looked downcast as voters made their choice to drop his musicians.

Simon's show has been struggling almost since it launched in 2011, but his personal life has been on an upswing.
This year he impregnated his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, who he will reportedly be proposing to soon.
He has said the arrival of his first child has helped snapped him out of a depression that could have stemmed from his flailing X Factor.
On Thursday Digital Spy reported that Simon might return to The X Factor UK.
'Simon's coming back, I'm pretty certain of that. Simon, I think, is definitely coming back to X Factor,' said X Factor UK judge Louis Walsh.
'He's having some new faces on the panel. I'd say I'm 70 percent certain he'll come back.'
